Homeschooling Philosophies
There are many homeschooling philosophies you could choose for your family. Many families adopt an Eclectic approach, blending different methods to create a custom education plan. Other styles include School-at-Home. This type is following the public school curriculum but in a home based setting. Here are a few of the major philosophies.
Classical
A structured approach that follows a three-part process for training the mind, often focusing on subjects like logic, grammar, and rhetoric.
Unit Studies
Organizes learning around a central theme or topic, integrating multiple subjects into a single, cohesive unit.
Charlotte Mason
Emphasizes a "living books" approach with short lessons, nature study, and dictation to create a rich and engaging education.
Waldorf
Focuses on the development of the whole child through a curriculum that integrates imaginative play, arts, and practical skills, often with a strong emphasis on the natural world.
Montessori
A child-centered method that uses specialized learning materials in a prepared environment to allow children to learn at their own pace.
Unschooling
A child-led approach where learning is driven by natural curiosity and interests, without a formal curriculum or rigid schedule.
