Home Centered Cooking
Families are increasingly cooking from scratch again, and there are several reasons behind this trend. The pandemic helped people become comfortable with home cooking and the habit stuck. Price increases and the Back-to-Basics movement has also helped this trend alive. Long-time family recipes are being dusted off and loved again. Being able to customize recipes to your families likes, dislikes, sensitivities and allergies has really hit home for a lot of families. Parents concerned about health learned they can more easily control the ingredients in their food. They can choose quality produce, healthy fats, and reduce salt, sugar and other harmful additives just by choosing to cook from scratch using basic ingredients.
The growing awareness of ultra-processed foods that contribute to weight gain, inflammation, and other health issues even further the desire to cook using whole foods. Fresh ingredients taste better. Homemade bread, sauces, soups, and other baked goods are better than store bought replicas.
Rising costs have also had an impact on the return to home cooked meals. Basic staples like rice, beans, vegetables, whole cuts of meat are usually far less expensive than packaged meals.

The Back-to-Basics movement refers to people wanting to learn skills that their great-grandparents knew. Gardening, raising chickens, preserving their own food to name a few. And cooking from scratch goes right along with this lifestyle choice.
